Iran’s “Sahar” (“Sahar Azari”) television channel linked footage from an event held in Türkiye’s Diyarbakir province to Azerbaijan and presented it as a rally organized in support of hijab-wearing individuals in the country, the Media and Broadcasting Council said in a statement, APA reports.
It was stated that this presentation, which distorts the location and nature of the event, is an example of gross falsification of facts, an attempt to deliberately manipulate public opinion, and open disinformation aimed at misleading the audience:
“The activities of this television channel are characterized by the dissemination of biased and untrue information directed against Azerbaijan and by misleading public opinion through provocative content. The channel’s systematic distortion of events related to our country, its regular publication of materials containing disinformation, and its approach aimed at forming a negative image of Azerbaijan show that this activity is one of the main directions of its information policy. It is precisely because of such consistent and biased activities that the channel has been included on the blacklist.
The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls on media entities to ensure the accuracy and objectivity of facts in the dissemination of information, to refrain from presentations that manipulate public opinion and distort the essence of events, and calls on the public to approach such posts critically, verify information based on reliable sources, and not become a tool for the spread of disinformation.”
