"In the last two months, 13 block trains have been sent from China via Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and thanks to the measures taken, it took 12 days for these containers to reach Georgian ports. Note that for information that before, this took 40-50 days," Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rahman Hummetov said as he delivered an online speech during the regional event dedicated to the study of the recently published World Bank report "Middle Trade and Transport Corridor - Policies and Investments to Triple Freight Volumes and Halve Travel Time", APA-Economics reports.

The Deputy Minister noted that Azerbaijan continues to invest in the development of highways and railway lines. One of the main issues is the construction of the transport line connecting Zangilan with Nakhchivan and Türkiye. As a part of the Middle Corridor, this transport line creates great opportunities for the development of transport and logistics ties. According to the calculations, the Zangazur Corridor will increase the Middle Corridor's transportation capacity up to 8-10 million tons per year.

He added that the integration plans for the development of the international transit corridors, an adaptation of border-crossing procedures, synchronization of the processes, ensuring the efficiency of sea operations, and implementation of a single global transit document show a positive effect in the field of digitization.

"We are thankful for the interest and support of the international organizations and World Bank's team in the realization of the Middle Corridor's potential. As the World Bank's report states, the Middle Corridor is recognized by the world community as not just a short-term solution for temporary connection, but as the shortest and most effective connection between the economies of the two continents. We have an intention and strong political will to support the development of the corridor, which plays the role of a reliable link in Eurasia, and to maximize its potential," Rahman Hummetov added.
