The operational period of the Georgian section of the Baku-Supsa pipeline is set to be extended, APA’s local bureau reports.

A legislative initiative regarding the extension of the operational period of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline segment passing through Georgia has been prepared.

According to the report, the draft law was presented in its first reading at a meeting of the Georgian Parliament’s Economic Policy Committee.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze stated that the agreement signed on March 8, 1996, between the Georgian International Oil Corporation and oil companies on the construction and operation of the Georgian section of the Baku-Supsa pipeline will expire on April 24 this year.

She noted that since the agreement on the operation of the Azerbaijani section of the pipeline expires on June 7 this year, the integrity of the pipeline must be preserved during the transition period. It was considered appropriate to align the duration of the contract with the agreement currently in force for the Azerbaijani section.

“An agreement has been reached with foreign oil companies and the pipeline operator company on this issue. Accordingly, all expenses related to the operation of the pipeline until June 8, 2026, will be financed by them,” the deputy minister added.

The Economic Policy Committee supported the draft law.
