Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has commented on Russia’s humanitarian aid to Garabagh, a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry said, APA reports.
Zakharova noted that in accordance with the initiative put forward by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a tripartite meeting with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Moscow on July 25, the scheme of parallel opening of Lachin and Aghdam roads was developed together with all parties interested in this issue:
Given that the positions are significantly different and that the mutual mistrust is high, the advancement of the issue was not easy. As the first step, on September 12, a humanitarian aid party was delivered to the region through the All-Russian public organization "Russian Red Cross Society".
According to her, the Armenian residents of Garabagh were provided with nearly 15 tons of food, personal hygiene products and bedding.
In the near future, we expect the Lachin Corridor to open in parallel with the Aghdam route and from then on, and the humanitarian aid go to the region regularly in both directions without hindrance considering to prior reached agreement.
We hope that the humanitarian situation in Garabakgh will stabilize and the normal activities of the local population will be restored through this route.
This, in its turn will create conditions for the start of dialogue between Baku and Khankandi and the resumption of dynamic work on the implementation of all comprehensive measures of the tripartite agreements signed at the highest level for 2020-2022 on the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations,” - the MFA official added.
