Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I sincerely congratulate you and the people of Russia on the successful organization of the 21st FIFA World Cup,” President Aliyev said in his message.
“The World Cup has become a truly unforgettable sporting event for all admirers of this most popular sport, for millions of fans,” the Azerbaijani president said. “Having demonstrated the great power of sport that bring nations closer together, strengthens friendship and cooperation, the completed World Cup in Russia will rightfully go down in the history of the championships as an example of perfect organization, preparation and holding of such tournaments.”
