Azerbaijan sees itself as part of the East, and the events taking place here affect the whole world, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
He made the remarks at a panel session titled "Regional Security, Regional Peace: Middle East," which was held as part of the 6th Global Baku Forum in Baku on March 16, APA reports.
The minister noted that significant changes occurred in the world after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
“These changes in some form affected Azerbaijan; the part of our country was occupied, more than one million people became refugees and IDPs, and the Azerbaijanis were subjected to ethnic cleansing,” Mammadyarov said.
“It is necessary to create the ground for the creation of a new world,” the Azerbaijani FM said, underscoring the need for reforms in the United Nations.
“If we want to see the future, as we predict it, then we need to act accordingly,” he added.
