“During the meeting, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev informed us about the latest situation, long-lasting conflict with Armenia,” said Latvia’s Former President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, APA reports.

She reminded that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia lasted up to 30 years adding that Azerbaijan has already restored its territorial integrity. Vaira expressed confidence that the EU’s active mediation between Azerbaijan and Armenia will result in the peace in the region:

“Once upon a time, there was a conflict in Europe. You remember the wars of Germany in Europe in the 1800s, and 1940s. However, currently, there is peace in Europe, and parties that were once conflicting countries are cooperating now. This shows that the countries that were conflict parties once, can reach an agreement. Mediation of the European Union and Charles Michelle personally, between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia paved the way to progress. Azerbaijani President expressed his desire and will for normalization.”
