UN expert: “I was shocked, when I saw Aghdam”

“I have worked in various committees in the UN for 30 years, and I have experience in numerous war zones. Currently, I am operating as an independent expert of the UN in this event,” said Aferin Shahidzadeh, an expert on the UN and human rights, participant of Baku International Conference of Ombudsmen, APA reports.

“I want definitely to note that my expectations for the city of Aghdam were very different: I imagined it as a dynamic city. However, when I see it, I was shocked. In general, such criminal acts are unacceptable. Taking into account that I have experience in many wars. For instance, in 1992, I was in Slovenia, in the city of Vukova, which is part of Croatia. I compare here to the atrocities that happened there. These lands were under occupation for 30 years, criminal acts, atrocities committed here, are war crimes, and no human rights are out of the question,” noted the expert.
