A meeting of the Turkic Red Crescent Network, approved at the XI Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Baku, has been held, APA reports.
At the official opening ceremony of the event, the President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and Member of Parliament Novruz Aslanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov, Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliyev, President of the Turkic Red Crescent Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz, President of the Kyrgyzstan Red Crescent Society Chingiz Chakyipov, and other heads of national societies delivered speeches.
In his speech, President of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society Novruz Aslanov stated that in recent years, the cooperation among the Red Crescent Societies of the Turkic states has further intensified: “The cooperation demonstrated between the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society and the Turkic Red Crescent during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Second Karabakh War, as well as during the earthquake in Türkiye, has been one of the brightest examples of the humanitarian harmony of the Turkic world.”
During his speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov noted that the Organization of Turkic States currently has various cooperation formats in more than 40 areas, including political and economic issues.
President of the Kyrgyzstan National Red Crescent Society Chingiz Chakipov announced that Kyrgyzstan has handed over the chairmanship of the Red Crescent Network of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) to Azerbaijan.
In the first session of the event, a presentation was made to the participants about the projects implemented in 2025, regional partnership formats, and the activities carried out to strengthen humanitarian coordination among the member National Societies.
The second session was dedicated to discussing long-term goals, priority areas of activity, and joint commitments for 2026.
Taking into account the results of the 2026 Strategic Roadmap Survey, the leaders of the National Societies exchanged views on the integration of thematic areas such as climate change, disaster preparedness and response, innovation, digitalization, and work with volunteers into next year’s activity plan. These discussions are expected to contribute to the preparation of the humanitarian section of the OTS Summit Declaration to be held in Türkiye in 2026.
The event concluded with the signing of the Baku Declaration of the Turkic Red Crescent Network, which confirms cooperation and solidarity among the member National Societies.
