On June 20, within the framework of a business trip to the United Kingdom, a meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the two countries was held with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of State for the European Region of the United Kingdom, Leo Dockerty, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.
At the meeting, detailed views were exchanged on many aspects of the political consultations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, including issues of strategic dialogue, and issues of mutual interest on the regional and international agenda were discussed.
It was emphasized that there is mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in all fields, and the special importance of Azerbaijan as an important trade partner. It was stated that UK companies are successfully operating in both the oil and non-oil sectors of Azerbaijan's economy, and there are ample opportunities for further deepening of economic cooperation.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed about the current situation in the region, including the steps taken by Azerbaijan regarding the peace process, the position of Azerbaijan regarding the normalization of relations between the two countries, and the restoration and reconstruction works carried out in the liberated areas. It was brought to the attention of the other side that violation of the provisions of the tripartite statement by Armenia is an obstacle to peace building in the region.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the humanitarian mine-clearing activities carried out in Azerbaijan. The contribution of the United Kingdom to the demining of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, their intention to closely participate in the reconstruction and restoration of these territories was appreciated.
The sides also discussed cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including relations with the European Union, as well as the situation in Ukraine, in a multilateral format.
As a continuation of the Strategic Dialogue, on June 21, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov had a bilateral meeting with James Cleverley, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Unity and Development of the United Kingdom.
The sides discussed the issues on the agenda of the Strategic Dialogue between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the political, economic, energy and humanitarian spheres, including within international organizations, strategic energy and transport projects initiated by our country, as well as regional security and the post-conflict situation.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his colleague about the country's views on conducting negotiations on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and ensuring security in the South Caucasus.
During the meeting, the sides noted that the existing dialogue, mutual visits and contacts between the two countries, as well as political consultations, made a significant contribution to the development of relations.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
