Today, a meeting took place between Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain, Francina Armengol Socias, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, and Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.
During the meeting, the special significance of this visit as the first visit of the Speaker of the Spanish Parliament to Azerbaijan was emphasized. It was noted that this visit, carried out following the first official visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis to the Kingdom of Spain in May 2025, is a clear example of the attention paid to the development of interparliamentary relations between Spain and Azerbaijan.
Speaking about the important role of interparliamentary cooperation, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis highlighted the significance of mutual visits in the development of relations between the two parliaments and emphasized the activities of the Azerbaijan–Spain interparliamentary working group within the Azerbaijani parliament. Sahiba Gafarova also provided information on the progress of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Francina Armengol Socias shared her impressions of the Victory Museum she visited in Baku and the development she observed in the country. She underlined that Spain supports Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and is interested in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields. The Speaker of the Parliament spoke about the importance of existing relations between the two countries in the economic sphere, including cooperation in the energy sector, and noted that Spanish companies are ready to further expand their activities in Azerbaijan.
During the conversation, views were also exchanged on the prospects for developing interparliamentary relations and other issues of mutual interest.
