The D-8 Organization must strengthen its position in the global information sphere, said the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, during his speech at the Media Forum held in Baku, APA reports.
“The Forum is the first media platform in which all nine D-8 member countries are represented at a high level. This level of participation shows that the member states are committed not only to economic cooperation but also to expanding cooperation in the field of information and communication,” he said.
The speaker noted that Azerbaijan, within a short period, has hosted important events within the organization, such as the “D-8 Climate and Urbanization Dialogue” and the “Informal Meeting of D-8 Commissioners.” In addition, Azerbaijan has proposed the establishment of the D-8 Media Excellence Center, which aims to strengthen knowledge exchange and institutional cooperation in the media sector.
In his speech, the Secretary-General emphasized that the role of media is crucial for forming a unified, reliable, and constructive information environment among member countries, and he highlighted the necessity of coordinated action in combating disinformation. He added that forming a joint information agenda within the D-8 space and promoting media narratives that support the development priorities of member countries holds strategic importance for future cooperation.
