Russian MFA comments on Washington meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs

"Looking at the statements made by both sides, we see that the exchange of views on the preparation of the peace agreement continues. During the discussion, the results of the summit held in Sochi were also taken into account," said the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova, APA reports.

"I would not say that the parties have refused the provisions reached during the agreements. Let me recall that in the joint statement dated October 31, the leaders emphasized the importance of preparing a peace agreement between official Baku and Yerevan in order to ensure sustainable and long-term peace in the region. Based on the reached results, it was proposed to continue the search for solutions for making a mutually acceptable final decision. We will continue to provide all necessary support to this process. When it comes to Russia's role in the normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations, the heads of state confirmed in Sochi that they are committed to the terms of all trilateral statements. This is the basis of the joint work carried out for the complex normalization of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia", noted Zakharova in a response to the questions "What would you say about the finals of the meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs held recently in Washington? Taking into account the planned meeting of the leaders of both countries in Brussels in November, could we say that the parties chose the normalization of relations under the will of the West, instead of Russia?".
