Russian Foreign Ministry comments on Canada’s joining EU mission in Armenia

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented on Canada’s joining the Monitoring Mission of the European Union in Armenia (on the border with Azerbaijan), APA reports.

Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry told a briefing today that "the appearance of Canadians in Armenia clearly confirms that the EU, which has completely lost its foreign policy independence, is engaged in serving the interests of the United States and NATO."

Zakharova emphasized that the monitoring mission of the EU in Armenia became subject to the task of geopolitical conflict with Russia, but at the same time, it does not prevent clashes on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

"There is no question of any contribution to the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan," she added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry official confirmed that this is the work of the bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border as one of the key mechanisms for reducing tension.

Zakharova stated that neither Brussels nor the United States mediation yielded any results that would lead to stability in the South Caucasus region.
