Russian experts: Pashinyan's blackmailing Kremlin may result in Armenia's losing the state-COMMENTARY

The first purpose of the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of US Congress Nancy Pelosi to Yerevan was the complete separation of Armenia from Russia, removal from the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union, and pledge support to Yerevan, Director of the Russian Institute for Political Studies, political scientist Sergei Markov told APA's correspondent in Moscow.

Politician noted that the second purpose was Pelosi's attempt to attract Armenians living in the US to the side of the Democratic Party in the elections in November of this year: "Pelosi's visit to Russia is assessed as a betrayal of Nikol Pashinyan. That is why Russia, which keeps a neutral position in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, feels that Pashinyan blackmails Moscow by moving toward the US and France. A response from Moscow to this may be either Pashinyan's overthrow by pro-Russian forces or Moscow's moving towards Azerbaijan from the neutral position."

Markov thinks that Russia can act as a supporter of Azerbaijan's restoration of full control on Karabakh, as well as the opening of the Zangazur Corridor connecting Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan with the power of arms: "In general, actions of Pashinyan authority are accepted in Russia as a betrayal. As for threats of official Yerevan on Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO, if it happens, the territories, which are now under the control of peacekeepers, will soon be completely under the control of Azerbaijan."

Russian political expert Yevgeny Mikhailov drew attention to the fact that the Armenian leadership is conducting an open betrayal policy of Russia and that this is happening against the background of continuous provocations from the Armenian side against Azerbaijan.

"The main purpose of the official Yerevan is to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty. Russia knows this well. It was obvious that the Armenian Minister of Defense held meetings in Washington, Department of State a while ago. Then a provocation happened on the Azerbaijani border. All of these are links of a chain. Aggravating the situation through the Russian borders is the main duty of Washington and Nancy Pelosi was sent to Armenia in order to strengthen this effect. I think that Russia will take a result from this. Because this act of the Armenian leadership is absolutely unacceptable. This is an outright betrayal. Today, Armenia is very dependent on Russia. That is why rejecting to cooperate with Moscow will result in losing the state for Armenia. Mass migration awaits Armenia. The official Yerevan lead the country into the abyss, instead of building relations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye," said the Russian expert.
