The Armenian leadership recognized Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Garabagh, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, APA’s Russia bureau reports.
“Armenia recognized Garabagh as a part of Azerbaijan. Armenia itself has determined the status of Garabagh,” Putin emphasized.
“The Armenian leadership noted it in the Prague statement and on this paper. We know about this. Now the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev tells me that Armenia has recognized that Karabakh is ours, the issue of the status of Garabagh is no longer on the agenda, it has been resolved, the Armenian leadership has publicly stated that, has announced all the territories and figures within the borders of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1991, which includes the territory of Garabagh. It has happened and it's not our decision. This is the decision of today's Armenian leadership.
If so, they tell us that if you want to deal with anything related to Garabagh, then you should solve it with us on a bilateral basis. So what should we say? There is nothing to say here. If Armenia itself recognized that Garabagh is a part of Azerbaijan...Of course, other issues arise here. The humanitarian issues and the mandate of our peacekeepers... The mandate is still in force. Issues of a humanitarian nature, prevention of any ethnic cleansing there, have not gone anywhere. I totally agree with that. The leadership of Azerbaijan always says that it is not interested in ethnic cleansing. On the contrary, it is interested that this process goes smoothly,” the Russian President added.
