“Azerbaijan has independent foreign policy and thus, Azerbaijan chooses its own friends. Friendship and especially cooperation with Israel is beneficial to both Azerbaijan and Israeli people,” Assistant to President of Azerbaijan-Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said as he was interviewed by i24NEWS TV channel of Israel, APA reports.
Hikmat Hajiyev noted that foreign policy and bilateral cooperation is neither an exclusive nor an inclusive process.
He underlined that the Azerbaijan-Israel cooperation is not against any third country. "This friendship is for the benefit of both countries and peoples. This friendship also has historical basis. This should not be forgotten and these historical relations will contribute to advancement of the prosperity of our relations. This is not against anyone."
Talking about the relations with Iran, Hikmat Hajiyev noted that Iran is a neighboring country of Azerbaijan: “Azerbaijan’s policy is that stable and mutually beneficial relations with neighbors are always good. This is Azerbaijan’s policy. There have been times when there was misunderstanding and miscommunication between Azerbaijan and Iran. But we are trying to address it through diplomatic channels and dialogue. Moreover, we are receiving positive messages from Iranian side. We are working with our Iranian colleagues in a diplomatic format to turn the page over and create a positive atmosphere for cooperation," the presidential assistant added.
