The situation of ten years ago and the current situation of the world are different, said Wolfgang Ischinger, the President of the Munich Security Conference Foundation Council, at the panel discussion at the 11th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.

“The war already is ongoing in our continent and this also inflames other conflicts. This is shameful fact,” he added.

Ischinger said that the Western Balkans have been waiting for the fulfillment of the promises made since 2003: “20 years has passed, we still wait. We believe that the process of admission to the European Union should be reviewed and simplified. Why countries such as Bosnia should wait all this time? Let's attend all official events, we do it, but nothing is done when it comes to membership.”

Accordin to him, the general idea of Europe contains the process of integration: “Current European Union is very different from the old European Union. Existing processes should be reworked and revised. If we cite the Treaty of Lisbon, there are no obstacles regarding with the admission of members.”
