“Relations with Armenia are not priority for Türkiye. If Azerbaijan reaches an agreement with Armenia, we can watch this process. There are always prior consultations with Azerbaijan at all of our discussions with Armenia. Therefore, our meeting and dialogue take place within the framework of awareness of Azerbaijan,” said president of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir who’s participating in the XI Baku Global Forum said to APA.
“If there was only Armenian state, any agreement might be concluded with both Azerbaijan and Türkiye. However, the Armenian diaspora has an influence, they live in wealth, but people living in Armenia are poor. Armenia is a landlocked country, they don’t know where they stand, are they close to Russia or Armenia… It would be good to help them out and lead them to a normal life. But when you come to a conclusion, an agreement emerges, then the diaspora intervenes and hinders them,” Volkan Bozkir said.
According to him, making amendment to the legislative acts of Armenia is necessary for the normalization of relations: “As long as these changes have not occured, we will not trust Armenia. They need to change that. The eastern provinces of the Republic of Türkiye are called "Western Armenia" in the Constitution of Armenia and the Declaration of Independence. They will always try to reach "Western Armenia" and try to get it. At the same time, the Declaration of Independence of Armenia states that the Republic of Armenia supports the task of achieving international recognition of what happened in 1915 as a "genocide". Without changing all of these, it is difficult for Armenia to reach an agreement with Azerbaijan and Türkiye.”
