Political Analyst: Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan tandem turns Organization of Turkic States into regional power center

The contribution of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan to strengthening the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and transforming it into a prominent, dynamically developing, and increasingly influential international structure is undeniable. Both countries are active supporters of deepening cooperation within the Turkic world, consistently advancing the agenda of unity, mutual support, and practical joint action, said Ranokhon Tursunova, professor at the Department of Political Science at Tashkent University of World Economy and Diplomacy and Doctor of Historical Sciences in a statement to APA.

According to the political analyst, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan demonstrate a strategic vision in the institutional development of the OTS: “Thanks to their initiatives and political will, the organization has established a clearer cooperation architecture, expanded its mechanisms, and enhanced coordination among member states. In addition, the contribution of our countries to the development and implementation of concrete projects aimed at strengthening economic, transport-logistics, cultural, and humanitarian integration is of great importance. Azerbaijan actively promotes transport corridors connecting regional countries, while Uzbekistan strengthens the resilience and complementarity of national economies by participating in shaping the overall economic and infrastructure agenda.”

Highlighting the special role of joint humanitarian activities, the Uzbek political analyst noted that this collaboration forms one of the foundations for consolidating Turkic solidarity:

“Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan support initiatives related to Turkic language, culture, education, academic exchange programs, and youth. These activities create a solid basis for long-term mutual understanding and unity among the peoples. Both countries advocate for strengthening mutual support within the organization, which contributes to raising the international profile of the OTS. The constructive diplomacy of Baku and Tashkent has made the organization a more visible and respected participant in regional processes.

From this perspective, the role of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the development of the Organization of Turkic States can be regarded as system-building. Their active stance, consistent efforts, and initiatives aimed at consolidating Turkic unity significantly enhance the OTS’s potential and provide a solid foundation for the organization’s future institutional and international development,” the expert concluded.
