"The Turkic peoples have relations dating back centuries," said Kubanichbek Omuraliyev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, in an interview with APA.
"We are among the closest nations in the world. In the past 100 years, particularly during the Soviet era, this closeness had diminished. However, after gaining our independence, Turkic states and Turkic peoples have come closer to each other. As you may recall, we signed an agreement in 2009 regarding the establishment of the Turkic Council in Nakhchivan. At the Istanbul Summit, our organization underwent a name change and became the Turkic States Organization. Within the framework of the organization, there is no difference in cultural, historical, or political approaches among the founding countries; rather, there are shared approaches and directions. The only issue is related to the economic sphere. Today, the most important additional issue pertains to transportation and logistics."
The Secretary-General of the Turkic States Organization stated that the Russia-Ukraine war is altering the traditional trade corridor route:
"If the Middle Corridor is considered as an alternative in the West, the realization of this initiative will be possible. If we, as the Turkic States Organization countries, further strengthen our economic cooperation and work closely together, we will be stronger. The leaders of the Turkic States Organization made a decision to establish a joint Investment Fund at the Samarkand Summit. Work is underway in this direction. A few days ago, Azerbaijan ratified this document. This issue is also being discussed among other member countries. InshaAllah, if this is completed in the near future and the Fund is formed, it will be a significant progress."
