Senior officials from the Nordic–Baltic countries have held talks in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, focusing on regional security and the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to a statement from Sweden’s embassy in Baku, directors responsible for Eastern Europe met with senior Azerbaijani officials and representatives of civil society and think tanks.
Among those attending the meetings were Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbayov, the President’s Special Representative for Special Assignments, Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, and Mammad Talibov, head of the European department at the foreign ministry.
The discussions covered a broad range of issues, including efforts to advance peace and normalisation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, wider regional security concerns, and the development of bilateral ties.
The visit marks the second official trip by the Nordic–Baltic group in this format, known as NB8, following a similar visit by political directors to Baku in spring last year.
