“The foreign policy course set by President Ilham Aliyev has a very clear and systematic framework,”  said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at a press conference on the results of the year, APA reports.

The minister stated that every country has allies and strategic partners: “Relations with them may differ from relations with others. However, there are clear frameworks and international law. We have never taken one position in one case and a different position in another. The Russia–Ukraine war entered an open phase in 2022. Azerbaijan has always supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty on this issue. Despite difficulties, Azerbaijan has consistently maintained this position in all areas. The tension between Azerbaijan and Russia was not related to the Russia–Ukraine war. The same applies to the Israel–Palestine conflict. Azerbaijan has always advocated a two-state solution. At the same time, the Palestinian issue is extremely important for the broader Islamic and Arab worlds. Azerbaijan has always maintained good relations with all these countries. Azerbaijan is among the countries with the best relations with Israel. In parallel with its principled position, Azerbaijan builds its relations with Israel on the basis of mutual respect and principles.”

The minister also touched upon the mine problem in the territories liberated from occupation: “Unfortunately, the threat of mines will accompany us for many years.”

He urged people not to visit mine-contaminated areas without authorization.
