“As the war ended, Azerbaijan started large-scale construction, reconstruction works in the liberated territories,” said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayromov at the meeting on the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan-UN relations held in Shusha, APA reports.
According to him, reconstruction of these areas that were razed to the ground during the occupation period, the return of former IDPs to their homes in a dignified and safe manner, integration of Azerbaijani citizens of Armenian origin in political, economic, and other fields in these territories and to be citizens with equal rights are among main priorities.
“The main point that makes an obstacle for rehabilitation in the liberated lands, is the pollution of these territories with mines. This hinders the safe return of IDPs and rapid reconstruction. The visit of the representatives of the UN institutions to these regions and see what happened with their eyes is good. We hope that these missions will present in detail in their reports what they have seen, and will propose concrete suggestions. Of course, the work done by the Government of Azerbaijan in a short time should not be left out of these reports,” stressed the minister.
