"Khojaly Genocide is a tragedy not only of Azerbaijani people but of all Caucasian peoples," Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Sukhumi State University of Georgia Guram Markhulia told APA's bureau in Georgia.

According to Professor, Georgian people, who have faced similar tragedies, accept the Khojaly Genocide as its own genocide and share the sorrow of Azerbaijanis.

"In Khojaly, Armenian bandits showed that they could kill civilians, regardless of age, women, children. Armed Armenians tried to clear Azerbaijani lands of Azerbaijanis, and therefore carried out ethnic cleansing. Of course, history considers this event as an act of genocide. This tragedy is very well known to the Georgian public. Everything possible has been done to explain the Khojaly tragedy to the Georgian public. Books on the tragedy have been translated into Georgian. Georgian historians have also written a lot about the Khojaly genocide. There are many articles in Georgian about the fascism of the Armenian armed forces during the Karabakh war. Similar events have befallen the Georgian people. Therefore, we understand the tragedy of the Azerbaijani people, we know it as our own. I believe that the Azerbaijani side will be able to punish all the bandits, including former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who personally participated in the implementation of this act of genocide. I believe that Azerbaijan will continue its struggle in this direction and international justice will be established in connection with the Khojaly genocide," said Mr. Markhulia.

Honored Journalist of Georgia, political scientist Badri Nachkebia stressed that the Khojaly genocide after the Second World War made its mark in history as the cruelest massacre both in Europe and post-Soviet place.

“Khojaly tragedy is one of the gravest crimes after the Second World War. This tragedy is one of the cruelest crime events against civilians both in Europe and post-Soviet geography.  In fact, the Khojaly tragedy was a tragedy in which completely defenseless children had been killed. This is probably the only tragedy in the post-Soviet space where most children have been killed,” Mr. Nachkebia said.
