"But naturally, Azerbaijan and Israel are strategic partners, so we take it seriously. We do not use the word "strategic" in vain, we do not use it for any country, when we say it we mean it," Ambassador of Israel to Azerbaijan, George Deek said in his interview with APA.
According to the ambassador in that respect, a partnership between the countries is deep and it crosses various fields: "One of them is security and our position also with regard to the issue of Karabakh has been very clear that we support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan full stop. And we also understand that Azerbaijan lives in a tough neighbourhood, with neighbours who do not shy away from making threats, and neighbours who make public or implied threats to Azerbaijan's independence or territorial integrity and as friends our partnership will do everything to empower Azerbaijan to prevent any forces from that. That is as much as I can say about partnerships in the security field."
The ambassador spoke about the unexpected visit of Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz to Azerbaijan a few months ago: " About the purpose of Mr Gantz's visit, I can tell you that usually, visits of Ministers of Defence will be a surprise for the media. Because when our minister visits we do not do it for the show, we do not do it just for the headlines, but there is a lot of substance to talk about. That has been the real purpose of the visit to talk about the substance of our cooperation. Unfortunately, I cannot speak publicly about those kinds of matters but I can tell you that coming here a few days before the general elections in Israel is very difficult for any politician to leave an election campaign and go to a foreign country. So, the Minister of Defence does that, you can see that it was very important for him and for our countries."
