“Throughout history, hatred has led to massacres and tragedies and Jews experienced it in last century,” said Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan George Deek, APA reports.

The diplomat noted that Jews were persecuted for their religion, race: “By not forgetting such events, we can achieve that they do not happen again. Mass massacres, genocides still occur in the world today and we can not turn blind eye to this.”

The ambassador stressed that every country has its own tragedy: “In International Holocaust Remembrance Day we remember all victims of the world. We also commemorate memories of 300.000 Azerbaijanis who fought against the Nazi regime and killed.”

According to G. Deek, Azerbaijan is the only country in the Muslim World today that hosts numerous Jewish Communities: “It is an indicator of values, owned and supported by Azerbaijan.”
The diplomat has reminded that the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Israel will be celebrated this year: “Azerbaijan’s Trade House was opened in Israel last year. I hope that we will celebrate opening of Embassy in the future.”
