A new border checkpoint on the Aghband-Kelaleh highway will expand economic and transit opportunities, Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, said in his remarks to APA during his visit to Zangilan with members of the diplomatic corps.
The diplomat emphasized that this marks a new stage of transit and economic opportunities for Nakhchivan.
“For the past 35 years, while the region was under occupation, Azerbaijan used Iran’s territory to access Nakhchivan. Even now, if you look across the border, you can see trucks and buses moving. At the same time, construction works are being carried out in Iran to create new opportunities. In the coming months, the new Aghband-Kelaleh border checkpoint will open, creating new opportunities for our economic relations, including in the fields of transport and transit,” the ambassador added.
