If Yerevan abandons its obligations, Baku will elaborate on alternative transport routes- Hikmat Hajiyev

“If Yerevan abandons its obligations, Baku will elaborate on alternative transport routes,” Assistant to Azerbaijani President, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said in an interview with Russian TASS news agency, APA reports.

According to Hajiyev, Azerbaijan does not intend to adapt its logistics needs to "the whims of the Armenian government" and his country will move forward together with its regional partners.

"If Yerevan abandons its obligations under various pretexts and if it wants to continue to remain isolated, then Baku is not going to wait. Active work is already underway on alternative projects with other countries in the region."

The assistant to the president underlined that Azerbaijan consistently supports the opening of all transport communications in the region, because close trade and economic relations will contribute to peace, stability and prosperity of the region. Azerbaijan highly appreciates the position of Russia, which is making great efforts to achieve progress in this regard.

Hikmat Hajiyev noted that there is a certain stagnation in the negotiations regarding the opening of transport communications.

The presidential assistant also added that one of the provisions of the trilateral declaration of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan is the opening of the Zangazur corridor, which means providing an unhindered connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of Armenia. Although almost three years have passed, this clause of the statement has not yet been fulfilled by Armenia.

"The opening of the Zangazur corridor is primarily beneficial for Armenia itself, which has been left out of the transport and logistics architecture of the region for nearly 30 years as a result of its aggressive policy against Azerbaijan," Hikmat Hajiyev emphasized.
