ICDO Secretary General pays official visit to Gulf countries

The Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), Arguj Kalantarli, paid official visits to a number of the Organization’s member countries in the Gulf region from January 20 to 30 this year, ICDO told APA.

It was reported that the main purpose of the visits was to assess the existing capabilities in the Gulf countries in the field of civil defence and the organization of emergency preparedness and response measures, to become closely acquainted with the areas of activity of the relevant agencies, and to discuss opportunities for expanding mutual cooperation.

During the meetings, various aspects of the Organization’s humanitarian activities were also discussed, in particular the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and possible areas of cooperation in this regard.

As part of the official visits, during his visit to the State of Kuwait, the Secretary General held meetings with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the leadership of the civil defence authority, as well as representatives of the relevant training institutes. The meetings discussed prospects for mutual cooperation. In addition, a visit was made to the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Emergency Management Center, where the delegation became closely acquainted with the Center’s activities.

Within the framework of his official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Secretary General met with the head of the country’s civil defence authority and visited institutes specializing in civil defence and emergency preparedness. He also met with the President of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, where the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of science and education.

During the visit to the United Arab Emirates, meetings were held with the leadership of the civil defence authority and representatives of relevant agencies, and the Civil Defence Academy was visited. A comprehensive presentation on the Academy’s activities was delivered, and views were exchanged on potential areas of future cooperation.

In addition, as part of an official visit to the State of Qatar, the Secretary General met with the country’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, and the sides discussed existing and potential areas of cooperation. Furthermore, during a meeting with the head of Qatar’s civil defence authority, the parties exchanged views on civil defence, as well as on organizing joint exercises and advanced training programs.

During the meetings, the sides emphasized the importance of further expanding mutual dialogue and practical cooperation, and expressed confidence that the existing relations between the ICDO and the Gulf countries would continue to develop in a positive direction in the future.
