We must prepare our people for peace, said Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, at the "Doha Forum" held in Qatar, APA reports.
The presidential aide noted that war and conflict are over for Azerbaijan. According to him, peace should create prosperity, ensure development, and change the entire geopolitical landscape of the South Caucasus. In this regard, Hikmet Hajiyev emphasized the importance of trust between nations, saying that Azerbaijan wants to make peace eternal, lasting and irreversible: "We must work hard for this. We know that sometimes there may be forces that want to disrupt peace. We must build a regional security architecture that can withstand all negative tendencies against peace. For this, trust between governments is necessary first. I can say with satisfaction that elements of trust are being formed between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan. This is an important foundation. But more importantly, trust between nations. We must prepare our nations for peace. Azerbaijan's message has always been that we do not want to sign a peace agreement only with the Armenian government, but also with the Armenian people so that future generations can benefit from it. We are working on confidence-building measures. We know that this is difficult. The wounds in our society are still fresh, there have been 30 years of conflict, escalations and a real war situation in the last five years. But the most important thing is that Azerbaijan has assumed regional leadership and responsibility."
