EU welcomes agreement on Azerbaijan-Armenia peace treaty

The European Union welcomes the statements made by Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the conclusion of negotiations on the draft Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations, APA reports, citing the official website of the European Union.

“We commend both parties for their persistent efforts in this direction over the past few years, both through bilateral channels and with the involvement of the international community,” the statement reads.

The EU highly appreciated the efforts made by both sides in this direction in recent years: “These statements are important steps towards lasting peace and security in the region. For the successful completion of the process, it is important that both sides demonstrate an equally constructive and compromise-oriented approach. The European Union fully supports the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and is ready to provide additional support and expertise if the parties so request.”

It should be noted that the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Armenia issued a statement announcing the conclusion of negotiations on the text of the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
