"South Caucasus is in the neighborhood of the European Union. We have long-term relations with three countries of the region," the Special Representative of the European Union (EU) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Toivo Klaar said in discussion of "Security in the South Caucasus: What is the role of the EU?", APA reports.
According to him, EU has an interest in the prosperity of the South Caucasus, ensuring peace and stability: "Positive development in the region is in our interest. Our involvement in providing this is not against anyone. The South Caucasus is in our neighborhood and we want peace and stability here."
Toivo Klaar stressed that EU began to work more actively with the region countries in 2020 after the 44-Day Patriotic War: "I would like to note once again that the EU was involved in the process earlier, our contacts did not increase due to the occupation of Ukraine, before that we already had these contacts".
