The European Union (EU) welcomes the ceasefire reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Peter Stano Lead spokesperson for the external affairs of the EU High Representative Joseph Borrell, APA reports.
"The EU welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which came into force yesterday at 20:00. We are encouraged by local news that the ceasefire has been observed so far.
We call on the parties to continue its implementation and to coordinate humanitarian steps, such as the handover of military bodies.
According to the instructions of Joseph Borrell, EU special representative Toivo Klaar is holding high-level consultations in Baku and Yerevan.
The EU actively participates in the process of normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the highest level through the President of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel," Stano said in his statement.
