The President of the Council of the European Union (EU), Charles Michel, is committed to deepening cooperation with Armenia and Azerbaijan for a secure, stable, peaceful and prosperous South Caucasus for the benefit of all, says the statement of the President of the Council of the European Union (EU) Charles Michel, Barend Leitz, APA reports.

He welcomed the first historic meeting of the Border Commission of the two countries on May 24 and stressed the importance of ensuring stability and security along the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

In a broader sense, President Michel stressed that for the continued normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it is important to resolve all issues, including the discussion of a future peace agreement and the elimination of past causes of conflict.

According to President Michel, in order to create conditions for a lasting and just peace, the issues that led to the First Karabakh War, as well as resumption of hostilities in 2020, must be resolved between all stakeholders.

As a legacy of any conflict, terminology is a particularly sensitive issue in this context.

In both cases, President Michel's statement on the outcome of the leaders' meeting should not be construed as a result of pre-arranged discussions.

Finally, the most important thing is that all issues are resolved comprehensively.

This includes the rights and security of the population.

The coordination was discussed in Brussels on May 22 to develop opportunities to remove the region from the bloc.

In this context, both sides reaffirmed that there were no additional territorial claims regarding future transport infrastructure.

On the contrary, speculation is unfortunate.

Finally, President Charles Michel emphasizes the importance of preparing peoples for peace and the important role of public rhetoric in this regard.

He welcomed the leadership of Yerevan and Baku and expressed his good will in providing a favorable atmosphere for the continuation of the talks.

The EU also expressed readiness to increase support to build trust between the parties.
