EU Commissioner: "Azerbaijan's gas makes up significant part of Europe's energy supply"

"We are loyal to strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan," said EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi at the press conference after meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov today, APA reports.

O. Varhelyi has noted that a shortage in gas field is observed in Europe: "Azerbaijan is one of the important partners in this field. 8 billion c/m gas has already been sent to Europe by Azerbaijan. It made up a significant part of our energy supply, especially in the winter months. We think that more gas can be sent. We are interested in the transport of Azerbaijan's gas to the Western Balkans. Gas, transported via Southern Gas Corridor, may allow decreasing emissions by 35%. Transport of Azerbaijan's gas to the Western Balkans will be very important. We rely on Azerbaijan as a very important partner for Western Balkans out of the crisis."
