EU ambassador: Progress toward peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a historic achievement

On December 17, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kujundzic, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

The Speaker, Sahiba Gafarova, congratulated the Head of the Delegation on the start of diplomatic activity in Azerbaijan and wished her success in her future activities.

The meeting exchanged views on relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union. The Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Marijana Kujundzic, expressed her congratulations on the achievements made towards peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and assessed this as a historic event. The diplomat said that the progress made towards achieving peace between the parties is an important event for the region, the continent, and the world.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis informed the diplomat about the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including confidence-building measures between the parliaments.

In this context, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova touched upon the points of concern in the “Strategic Agenda for the European Union-Armenia Partnership” in terms of the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process.

Touching upon the resolutions of the European Parliament against Azerbaijan, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that the realities existing in the region today and the achievements made in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia once again prove how biased these resolutions are.

During the conversation, various aspects of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union were also reviewed. In particular, the importance of partnership in the energy sector was emphasized. At the same time, it was noted that there are new opportunities for expanding cooperation in transport, trade and other areas.
