The dissolution of the Minsk Group is part of the great victory of the Azerbaijani President in the diplomatic and military fields, said Tahir Mirkishili, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, in a statement to APA.
The MP said that on December 24, 2024, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2nd residential complex in Aghdam, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev exposed in detail the biased position of international organizations and a number of states in the process of resolving the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and the multilateral support they provided to the occupying Armenia: “The speech of the head of state is not only a chronicle of historical facts, but also a manifestation of Azerbaijan's resolute struggle and victory against international injustice. The President once again summarized the difficult path, struggle, and victory that Azerbaijan has passed. Despite the comprehensive support provided to Armenia for decades, double standards, and violations of international law, Azerbaijan resolutely continued its struggle for its just cause and won. The opening of a new residential complex in Aghdam - in a once-occupied and destroyed city - is the best proof of this victory. The occupying forces and their patrons were defeated, and Azerbaijan liberated its lands and is now improving and returning these lands to the people. This speech is also a warning to the international community: double standards, unjust support, and violations of international law do not lead to lasting peace. Justice and truth will prevail sooner or later. Azerbaijan's experience has proven this once again."
Tahir Mirkishili noted that instead of resolving the conflict, the OSCE Minsk Group and its co-chairs - Russia, the US, and France - aimed to perpetuate the occupation and justify Armenia: “The negotiation process was dragged out for years, four UN Security Council resolutions were not implemented, and Armenia's aggressive policy was ignored. The Minsk Group assessed the occupier and the occupied party on the same level, which was a gross violation of international law.
On December 12, 2020, after a 44-day war, President Ilham Aliyev received the co-chairs of the Minsk Group and made a historic statement: “I did not invite the Minsk Group to come.” This statement was a declaration of Azerbaijan's unequivocal declaration of the futility of this organization and its reliance on its own strength. Azerbaijan did not bow to pressure and, having won the 44-day war, restored its territorial integrity. During the President's visit to the US in August 2024, Azerbaijan and Armenia jointly appealed to the OSCE to abolish the Minsk Group. The liquidation process was completed on December 1, 2025, and this anti-Azerbaijani organization has finally become history. This is part of the great victory won by the President of Azerbaijan in the diplomatic and military fields."
