Deputy Minister: “Azerbaijan officially presented 5 base principles to Armenia, we are waiting for response”

In September last year, the Republic of Azerbaijan filed an interstate lawsuit against Armenia in the International Court of Justice based on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, said Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Gurbanov in his speech at “Genocide: A new perspective in the context of crimes against humanity” conference organized by New Azerbaijan Party in Guba, APA reports.

According to him, the court announced temporary measures against Armenia in December: “Based on an urgent petition by Azerbaijan, it was adopted unanimously by 15 judges and Armenia was instructed to implement all necessary measures to prevent incitement of racial hatred on the basis of hate speech against Azerbaijani citizens and persons of Azerbaijani origin in its territory. The basis for the court’s decision was not bringing to justice militarized organizations such as the ethnic nationalist VOMA which make hate speech in Armenia against Azerbaijani citizens and persons of Azerbaijani origin, on contrary, encouragement of their activity by Armenian government, the awarding of activists of the organization by the state was evidence and proof that we proposed to the court.”

Deputy minister recalled that after 44 days of Patriotic war, Azerbaijan has offered Armenia to sign a comprehensible peace agreement: "A while ago, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially presented 5 basic principles that will form the basis of this agreement to the Armenian side. The Azerbaijani government has offered Armenia to sign a peace agreement based on these principles in order to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region and waits for a meaningful response from the opposite side for some time. We consider that alongside legal and political assessment of the historical crimes, in order to establish lasting peace and stability in the region, Armenia must finally abandon its policy of nationalism against Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis for more than 100 years, prevent hate speech, aggressive, violent, revanchist calls aimed at Azerbaijanis in its society and must accept a position based on the fundamental principles of the international law put forward by Azerbaijan".
