“CICA started operating as an open structure at first. The founders of the organization participated in the UN General Assembly as a first step and we got the status in 2006, we have our seat in the UN General Assembly,” Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measure in Asia (CICA), Kairat Sarybay told APA as a response to question of “On which level is the cooperation with international organizations to expand the its activities”.

“We had dialogues with UN Secretary Generals at almost all summits. UN Secretaries have addressed to our organization. CICA member states are committed to UN Charter and all conditions set forth by it. Besides UN, we also have developed relations with a number of organizations. Yesterday I have met with Director General of International Organization for Migration (IOM). The issue of migration is also currently relevant for Asia and how to fight against illegal migration is not only the question. Our purpose is to further legal migration. Climate change, demographic factors will cause increase in migrant flow. There is nothing new, because Asian history is rich with numerous influxes of great masses of people. People have historically migrated from one geographical area to another, we Turks have traveled from the Altai Mountains to Europe” said the Secretary General.

According to him, good relations have been established between CICA and UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs : “The fight against drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism is of great importance to the member countries of CICA. This issue plays a great role in creating and maintaining trust between countries and for this reason, many countries organize training on this topic for the employees of legislative bodies.”
