“The Washington meeting held on August 8 creates an opportunity for the South Caucasus to move towards peace,” said  Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), during his speech at the 1st Azerbaijan–U.S. Think Tanks Forum, APA reports.

“We have two conflict hotspots around us. One is the Russia–Ukraine conflict, and the other is the Middle East, where several conflicts are taking place. Naturally, these do not pass without affecting the South Caucasus. The initialing of the peace agreement in Washington on August 8 creates an opportunity for the South Caucasus to move towards peace in such an environment. We hope that amendments will be made to Armenia’s constitution, and under appropriate conditions the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace agreement will be signed. The August 8 meeting also opens new opportunities for Azerbaijan–U.S. cooperation. Over the past 30 years, our cooperation has mainly been in the energy sector. However, there are now prospects for partnership in other areas as well,” Farid Shafiyev said.
