Britain to continue support to Azerbaijan in the field of demining

Great Britain will continue its support to Azerbaijan in the field of demining, said British ambassador to Azerbaijan James Sharp, APA reports.

He said that demining is one of the most important processes for Azerbaijan: “I am very glad that Great Britain also supports Azerbaijan in this work. There are several components of demining. One of them is to carry out awareness works about mined areas. As you know, some people have illegally passed to returned lands. As a result, they became victims of landmines. I want to emphasize the importance of the measures we have taken in this field. As a result of billboards set up on the roadside and awareness-raising activities among students, people's knowledge about mines has increased. On the other side, many British experts have shown their support for demining works.

The ambassador noted that British companies have expressed support to Azerbaijan in this field: "Within the framework of the visit to Aghdam yesterday, we had an opportunity to see the activities of those companies. As well as, our Ministry of Defense also expresses its support in the field of demining. Another element of demining is related to conventions. I consider that it is important to join these conventions in order to look forward and Azerbaijan to show its leadership in this field."
