The member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) have a total trade volume exceeding 1 trillion US dollars, but trade among themselves does not surpass 70 billion dollars, said Chairman of the OTS Council of Elders Binali Yıldırım in a statement to journalists during the 18th meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States, APA reports.
“The Turkic states have tremendous potential, but they do not share this wealth among themselves — instead, they transfer it to third countries. The main goal of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States, relevant ministers, and civil society institutions is to strengthen our unity and ensure that our needs are first addressed within our own circle,” he said.
Binali Yıldırım emphasized that the Turkic geography is a strategic region and, therefore, our countries bear responsibility for fostering long-term cooperation.
