Bilateral agreement between EU and Azerbaijan will be reached soon, Peter Michalko says

“Bilateral agreement between EU and Azerbaijan will be reached soon,” said Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko at his speech in the seminar within the framework of "FantazEU" Cultural Heritage Festival, organized by the ambassadors and well known European and Azerbaijani experts, named “We are stronger together in Eastern Partnership. Benefits for Azerbaijan,” APA reports.

According to the EU ambassador, Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a cooperation program.

He urged Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine and to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this country.

Touching upon the history of the EaP ambassador noted that this program is based on strategic partnership and the purpose is to deepen relations of partner countries and EU, at the same time to support the development and welfare of the partner countries.

“Eastern Partnership strengthens the sustainability of its partners, the main priority of the EU is to support Ukraine in the background of Russian aggression currently. The EU is ready to provide support against hyper dangers. We support Georgia and Moldova,” said.

Ambassador has stressed that the EU has close cooperation with Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova.

“These countries have appealed for membership. The EU discusses it.”

Peter Michalko has also touched upon cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU: “Strategic cooperation directions between the EU and Azerbaijan were stressed in Summit of leaders in December. Reaching a bilateral agreement will give a new impetus to relations. Now the Eastern Partnership is more important than ever and we should change in accordance with conditions in the region.”

The EU official has noted that signing a bilateral agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU will take cooperation to a new level.

“There is a legal base on future relations with Azerbaijan. A new agreement will also be signed soon. Both sides are interested in signing the agreement soon.”

Peter Michalko has touched upon the perspective of economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.

 "Azerbaijan remains at the forefront in twinning projects, which gives impetus to cooperation possibilities in various fields. We will be glad to see progress in imports and exports. The EU is the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has great potential in the field of logistics. The region plays a great role for the EU is great and it can be strengthened in the future. "

Noting the cooperation in the field of education, the EU ambassador said that Azerbaijani students study in EU countries under the Erasmus program.

Peter Michalko, who recalled the visit of the EU Commissioner to Azerbaijan, also noted that financial support in five areas includes the digitalization of transport corridors, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and "smart" and "green" cities, etc.

The EU and Azerbaijan are cooperating very closely within the Eastern Partnership, and this format offers the EU and Azerbaijan ample opportunities in this area.
