The traditional international mine action conference, jointly organized by the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) and the United Nations (UN) Office in Azerbaijan, has kicked off, APA reports.
The theme of the 4th International Mine Action Conference, being held in Baku on September 2-3 this year, is “Humanitarian Mine Action for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Human Settlements.”
The conference aims to hold discussions on raising global awareness of Azerbaijan’s mine problem, strengthening international cooperation in humanitarian mine action, the role of eliminating the mine threat in a safe and sustainable reconstruction process, exchanging innovative approaches and best practices, as well as ways to mobilize international efforts to eliminate the mine threat.
More than 400 representatives from 60 countries are participating in the 4th International Humanitarian Mine Action Conference hosted by Baku. Participants include high-ranking officials from several countries, representatives of UN agencies and prominent international organizations, officials from mine action centers of various countries, as well as officials from diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan.
