A delegation led by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev paid an official visit to Doha, the capital of the State of Qatar, on December 14, the Prosecutor General's Office told APA.
As part of the visit, the Prosecutor General attended the presentation ceremony of the Excellence in the Fight against Global Corruption Award.
The event was attended by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, high-ranking officials of the UN and the State of Qatar, delegations from various countries and international experts.
For information, it should be noted that the aim of the award, established in 2015 with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is to promote the importance of the fight against corruption, encourage the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption and present achievements in this field to the public.
Within the framework of the event, the Prosecutor General held a meeting between the Chairman of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center (ROLACC) of the State of Qatar and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the aforementioned award, Ali Al Marri.
The meeting emphasized the highly dynamic development of mutual relations between two countries, stemming from friendly relations at the level of political leaderships, and the importance of exchanging experience in the field of combating corruption was noted, and joint projects were discussed.
Within the framework of the visit, the Prosecutor General also held discussions on a number of issues of mutual interest between the parties at a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Alexander Zuyev. In addition, it was noted that a number of Azerbaijan's initiatives related to the fight against terrorism and corruption are supported by the UN.
The meetings were also attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of our country to the State of Qatar, Adish Mammadov.
Within the framework of the visit, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev also visited the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the State of Qatar and met with the embassy staff.
The delegation led by the Prosecutor General is expected to participate in the 11th Assembly of States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption, which will begin in Doha.
