Today, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, met with Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the international parliamentary conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on the topic “The Constitution as the Foundation of States’ Independence and Sovereignty in the Modern World”, APA reports, citing the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.
During the meeting, the importance of the international parliamentary conference was emphasized, noting that the Constitution plays a key role in strengthening the legal foundations of the state, promoting societal development, ensuring political stability, and protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.
It was highlighted that as a result of Azerbaijan’s Victory, the country ended Armenia’s 30-year occupation, restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty. It was also noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s decree declaring 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in Azerbaijan carries both significant political importance and symbolic meaning.
The meeting also expressed satisfaction with the historical friendship and brotherhood between the two countries, emphasizing the special role of the leaders of both nations in deepening these relations. The cooperation of the legislative bodies, both bilaterally and across various platforms, was highly appreciated for expanding bilateral relations.
During the discussion, the Third Trilateral Meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Türkiye, held earlier this month in Islamabad, was recalled with satisfaction. Its outcomes were highly valued, and it was noted that the meeting made a significant contribution to further expanding interstate relations.
