The Azerbaijani MP spoke about the importance of establishing a checkpoint on the Lachin road at the PACE, APA's Britain bureau reports.
Today, during the spring session of PACE, a member of the Azerbaijani delegation, Rafael Huseynov, spoke about the importance of establishing a checkpoint on the Lachin road.
He noted that Armenia illegally abused the Lachin road for military purposes: "Since the leaders signed the trilateral statement two and a half years ago, Azerbaijan has continuously drawn attention to the Armenian side's widespread abuse of the Lachin road. Since August 2022, more than 2,700 anti-personnel mines produced in Armenia in 2021, have been discovered in areas of the Lachin and Kalbajar regions. All of these mines were brought to Azerbaijan's territory through the Lachin road."
The deputy said that the government of Azerbaijan decided to establish a border checkpoint at the start of the Lachin Khankandi road due to the deterioration of the security situation and the increase in cases of large-scale usage of the Lachin road by Armenia for illicit reasons.
Rafael Huseynov said that this fully corresponds to the sovereign rights of Azerbaijan to control its borders.
