Azerbaijani MFA comments on statement of Armenian SC on start of peace negotiations

"We would like to state regarding a statement of Armenian Security Council (SC) dated March 28, 2022, that direct reason for the increase of tension in the region Armenia's not following its obligations. Violation of articles of a trilateral statement by namely Armenia increases tension in the region and damages efforts for peace-building," noted in the commentary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MFA) on the statement of Armenian Security Council, APA reports.

"We would like to bring to the attention of Armenian leadership regarding the issue of putting international mechanisms of deterrence into operation that humanity has not thought better international mechanism of deterrence than international law yet. A state like Armenia can not speak about the international mechanism of deterrence while grossly violating international law on the other hand. If members of the Security Council of Armenia do not know what is the best international mechanism of deterrence, then we repeat to them the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for the sovereignty and international borders of states, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and following their international obligations.

When it comes to the negotiations on a comprehensive peace agreement between the two countries, we would like to recall that first of all, the Azerbaijani side has proposed to sign a peace agreement with Armenia at the highest level a year ago, and a month ago voiced specific principles on which the agreement should be based. If the Armenian side considers the agreement issue as a serious step, not as another public awareness campaign, then it is time to take concrete steps. We would like to repeat that Azerbaijan is ready for this from its side," noted in the commentary.
