On August 10, 2023, a phone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, as well as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Bujar Osmani, APA reports citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

During the phone conversation, cooperation matters within the framework of the OSCE, bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and North Macedonia, the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, and the current situation in the region were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the escalating provocations by Armenia against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan are aimed at hindering the progress of the peace process. In particular, it is noted that Armenia's provocations at the Lachin border checkpoint, which threaten the reintegration of Armenian residents into Azerbaijani society and destabilize the region, demonstrate that this country is not genuinely interested in the peace process.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that Armenia's claims of a "tense humanitarian situation" and a "blockade" in the region have no basis, and highlighted that the obstacles to the operation of the "Aghdam-Xankendi" road proposed by our side to fulfill the demands of Armenian residents for their commute, reveal the political rather than humanitarian nature of the issue, contrary to what Armenia presents.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the unacceptability of Armenia's use of the Lachin road for military purposes and the transportation of our natural resources to Armenia, as well as the continued threat of landmines, which contradicts international legal norms and obligations during the post-conflict period after Armenia's military occupation of nearly 30 years. He highlighted the significance of the Lachin border checkpoint in preventing these destabilizing actions.

During the phone conversation, there was also an exchange of views on other mutually relevant issues.
